Beautiful Maya

We all know her works Phenomenal Woman or Still I Rise. But, until you've watched the sparkle in her eyes and the glow of her smile as she speaks these works, you just don't truly get it the magic of them.  (Or, at least, I didn't!).

Maya was with me today as I worked through my day... making me smile and filling my heart. Ladies, tomorrow, when you sit at your desk working yet another day... let her do the same for you!

#thisbody was made to shine through

I have been a big girl for many years.  It rarely seems to matter in my world. I live a rich beautiful life full of love, success and happiness.  Yes, it would be fun to be smaller and healthier, but I have never let this body stop me from doing anything and everything I wanted to do and be.

I really like this ad campaign if for no other reason it shows us that the body is only a shell for all the magic, passion and life that we are destined to be.

6 Photographers, 1 Man, 6 Perspectives

'A photograph is shaped more by the person behind the camera than by what is in front of it.'

I love this idea.  Though in truth we as photographers always try to capture the essence of the people we photograph, the reality is that we all bring a bit of ourselves and our perspectives to every shoot we do.

I saw this video today and instantly fell in love as it so freely reflects the way the things my clients tell me affect the way in which I capture them and what results in their final images.

Music Always Motivates!

Whenever I am about to sit down for an editing session, I first put on a movie or music that will help set the tone and move me in the way I need to feel creative.  Today, I was working on an editorial and stumbled across this song that randomly hit my playlist.

It reminded me just how much I enjoyed the movie Crash and that maybe tomororw, I'll find my way home.  (Not a big fan of the video, but after watching the movie, it is a beautiful tone to end on.)

The Jubilee Project

There is little that I can say about this video except that it was beautiful and well worth the time and the tears.

These short films are created by the Jubilee Project, a non-profit organization that aims to tell uplifting and inspiring stories to help bring positive change in the world.

Love Has No Labels

I don't know if it is because someone has been giving me a reason to smile lately, or simply because I am naturally a sap, but I love this!

There is not better feeling than seeing a smile on someone's face than knowing it is there because they see you.  Looking at all these happy faces, and seeing love - in all its shapes and sizes - I know there is a God and he has a plan for us all.

A Child's Future is Worth Every Sacrifice.

Perhaps this appealed to me today because my eldest daughter recently moved out to start her new life. Or it is perhaps because I am simply a sap.

But, how can you not watch the following video and feel that (1) Met Life Hong Kong is fantastic for doing this sort of advertising and (2) that everything you ever gave up or every tired day was worth it the second you saw your child's smile.

To Sean, Gabby and Caroline.  You have been worth every sacrifice and I pray every day that you know the joy of those struggles for the ones you love.

Reinvention is always better!

Sure, coming up with a great idea, a great song, a great style is always wonderful.  Originality always rocks.  But, sometimes, seeing it reinvented is even more so as you capture not only the magic of the original but the beauty of evolution and the life it takes on long after the original has faded.

Case in point?  Go to Youtube and search for 'Selfies on Kodachrome'.  Do it.  Do it NOW!

What you will find is the most delicious array of musical recreations that will keep you smiling and tapping your toes for hours!

Okay... I could go on all day posting these videos.  I love them all!

Happy Birthday to You, Too!

So often becoming a mother becomes such a crazy whirlwind.  That first year is such a rapidly changing time as we scramble to help our child learn, adapt and grow.  We are often overwhelmed, sleep deprived and fearful that we are doing it all wrong.

I saw this video today and delighted in seeing that it wasn't just our children who were growing and changing.  These dads gave moms a wonderfully moving surprise after realizing what first year of parenthood truly means.  Cheers to Pampers, for this newest campaign that wishes a Happy 1st Birthday to moms, too.

I love this ad!  Now, excuse me while I go hug my kids and dig out those old baby albums!

PS.  Don't forget to turn on the English subtitles!

I miss when my children use to cry.

I love this video.  Perhaps seeing a child cry is not the best thing in the world, but I adore this because it is a game that ALL parents have played with their children.  Sometimes, they laugh, sometimes, they cry and sometimes, they just roll their eyes.  But, in the end, it is a wonderful reminder how similar families all are and how precious are kids are when they are so little.

My children are no longer children, but rather adults as my son Sean is now 24, Gabby is 20 and Caroline 18.  It is a strange thing to remember when they were so little and laughing in my arms.  But, now, I get to enjoy them as adults and seeing their passions take flight and carve out beautiful new lives.

Some days, there is nothing better than the memories of our children when they cried over little games and the knowledge that one day, they will make their own children cry.

Wow... if you didn't watch the video below, this might sound really bad!

I am Second.

I am Second is a movement meant to inspire people of all kinds to live for God and for others. Actors. Athletes. Musicians. Business leaders.  Drug addicts. Your next-door neighbor.

People like me.  People like you.

The authentic stories on www.iamsecond.com/films provide insight into dealing with typical struggles of everyday living. These are stories that give hope to the lonely and the hurting, help from destructive lifestyles, and inspiration to the unfulfilled.

When I am feeling overwhelmed with my life, I often listen to these films in the background.  Hearing the stories of struggle, challenges, change and inspiration.  I am reminded that God is not in my church, but in those moments when hope is all you have.  God is in the inspiration in my heart to do things for another, to set aside my own problems and serve the needs of others.  In that action, I realize...

I am never alone.
I am second.

There are many inspiring films on this website.  I cannot pick a favorite as each speaks to a different need or emotion I may be having at the time.  Instead, I have picked this one to show you as like Kay Robertson, my family is my everything.

In good, in bad and everything in between.
